Planning is just as important when it comes to food as it is in any other aspect of life. Without planning things tend to go wrong. A house built without a plan will probably fall down. Without a plan you will probably get stuck in traffic and miss you plane flight. Once at your destination, without a plan you wont have anywhere to stay that night. Ask someone, however, what they plan to eat for dinner tonight or breakfast tomorrow and they probably wont have any idea.
If you want to have a healthy diet then there is no getting around planning. This means having healthy food on hand in any situation that might arise. Unfortunately when people do make plans for food this is often reliant on everything going perfectly as expected. If something unexpected arises like having to work extra time or a friend popping over for a coffee and chat, then suddenly things can go wrong.
The most important part of planning is foreseeing events that may happen unexpectedly, and having backups in place. Take again the example of catching a flight. Most people leave home with enough time should something unexpected happen like getting stuck in a traffic jam.
When called on to work extra time at the office, having a spare stash of mixed nuts or fresh fruit may prevent you from calling into McDonalds on the way home because you’re hungry and the temptation is too great.
The weekends are a great opportunity to plan food for the week ahead. Generally most people have a few spare hours to go shopping and stock up on food for snacks, lunches and dinners. Once healthy food is in the house the hard part has been taken care of. The next step is to plan so healthy food goes wherever you go, and eating healthy becomes easy!!
